American Spirituals and American History Studies

The negro spiritual and American spirituals are an intrinsic part of America’s history. The learning and teaching of these songs and stories surrounding these songs as part of American History Studies, not only enriches the learning experience, but can deepen the absorption and retention of history by deepening the learning experience.

Ms. Elvira Green, president of FFRCC Board of Directors and national board member of NANM, along with several scholars, authors, and musicologists of the spirituals are collaborating with history teachers to bring this deeply meaningful and vast treasure trove to the students. The program also offer workshops with music teachers and students for the study and singing of the American and Negro Spirituals.
